The Future of the Internet

The Internet is the most popular technology the world has to offer, with 1.5 billion people connecting to it each and every day. The net works as a medium to collaborate individuals worldwide without the interferance of geographic location, is a world-wide broadcasting center, and distributes information all around. As time goes on, advances to the Internet are continually going to rise above us and as they grow and expand, people are becoming reliant on it for their everyday lives more and more, making a higher demand for the net to further exceed. The success of the Internet can be credited to fufilling the communities basic needs as well as using the community in an effective way to further push the infrastructure ahead.

The Internet is often referred to as the super highway that connects billions of people across the globe through networks. The Internet is the largest global network that connects smaller networks world wide. This technology was launched in the year of 1969 following many previous experiments and technologies. The Internet grew from the ARPANET and was based on the idea that there would be multiple independent networks. A key concept of the Internet is that it was not just designed for one main application, but as an infrastructure where new applications can be conceived. The history of the Internet is rather complex. So far the Internet has grown from the era of time-sharing and has survived the era of personal computers, client-server and peer-to-peer computing, and the network computer. The Internet is going to continue to grow, now the question is how much.

Many people throughout the world view the Internet in different ways, some feel the Internet is a great success while others believe it is doing nothing but hurting our society. Some citizens also believe the world has an "Internet Addiction" while others feel the Internet will forever keep them connected to friends and loved ones. We also share differing opinions on whether the future of the Internet is going to have negative or positive impacts. Whether we like or dislike the Internet, without it many people would not know how to survive. It has become a staple in a massive amount of peoples' lives. In one sense the Internet is addicting, but is it a good addiction or a bad addiction? That is yet to be determined among researchers. A lot of problems with the Internet have rose from people spending too much time on it, but with moderation it gives a whole different vibe. We will continue to look for the answers in hopes to find out whether the net is going to help or hurt us in the future.
